How to respec in Control: Resonant: where reset items come from, which growth categories they reset, and how weapon form swapping differs from a full respec.
Resetting your skill points in Control: Resonant is not free — every respec burns a consumable reset item, and each item only wipes one of the game's three growth categories. Worse, mutations, talents and combat abilities all have to be reset separately. Here is exactly how the system works before you spend anything.
What a reset item resets
One reset item covers exactly one growth category. The three categories that can be wiped are:
- All mutation upgrades — including main weapon forms, side weapon forms and combo finishers.
- Talents.
- Combat abilities.
Reset items come from specific quests — main story missions in particular — and can also be bought from merchants. If you plan to rebuild several parts of Dylan's loadout, budget several items: resetting talents does not automatically reset combat abilities or mutation upgrades.
Respec step by step
- Obtain a reset item from a quest reward or a merchant.
- Travel to the Dream Hollow.
- Open the growth menu that matches the part of the build you want to change.
- Choose the "Reset All" option and confirm the reset.
- Reallocate the points that were tied up in that category.
That is the entire flow — but note the item is consumed whether or not you re-spend the points well, so decide on the new build before confirming.
Swapping weapon forms is separate
Changing weapon forms is an entirely independent system and never touches your reset items. When another form would do the job better, you can adjust your combat setup without any cost at all.
The catch: you must unlock an alternative form before it can be equipped. Main forms, side forms and combo finishers all unlock through their corresponding upgrade trees in the Dream Hollow, once you have the required crafting materials. From there:
- Open the main menu and select "Loadout."
- Choose the main form, side form or combo finisher slot you want to change.
- The next screen lists every unlocked alternative — switch between them freely.
Each form's stats are displayed here too, along with how many upgrades you have unlocked for it, which makes comparing your combat options much easier.
